Four year career plan

Checklist for SUPER Students:

First Year:

  1. Take career assessment called “FOCUS 2”
  2. Review your Focus 2 Career Assessment with the Director of the CDC. Focus 2 must be completed prior to meeting with the CDC.
  3. Meet with the Director of the CDC to become familiar with services offered
  4. Meet with the Internship Coordinator in the CDC to start an internship resume – this should have been done during the Summer Transition Program
  5. Become involved in campus activities to explore interests and abilities that related to possible career paths

Second Year:

  1. Review the CDC events calendar regularly and attend any events that match your career interests and needs for development
  2. Meet with the Director of CDC to talk about job shadowing opportunities
  3. Meet with the CDC Internship Coordinator to develop an internship resume
  4. Create a final CDC approved internship resume
  5. Meet with the Director of the CDC to start an e-portfolio
  6. Pursue volunteer work and further involvement in campus activities

Third Year:

  1. Review the CDC events calendar regularly and attend any events that match your career interests and needs for development
  2. Meet with the CDC Internship Coordinator to understand the internship process and begin identifying areas of interest for internships and research opportunities
  3. Update resume to include most recent internship, research, and volunteer experience and have it reviewed by the CDC Internship Coordinator
  4. Continue to meet the Director of the CDC to review and improve e-portfolio
  5. Focus on campus activities that are related to career interests
  6. Attend at least one CDC career preparation workshop presented by the CDC staff

Fourth Year:

  1. Review the CDC events calendar regularly and attend any events that match your career interests and needs for development
  2. Meet with the Director of the CDC to discuss job, graduate and professional school search
  3. Update resume to focus on job search rather than internships with the CDC Director
  4. Update resume to a curriculum vitae if you plan to go to graduate or professional school with the CDC Director
  5. Update and complete e-portfolio as it relates to updated career path; review this with the CDC Director
  6. Use the Career Network to connect with alumnae and alumni who are interested in assisting students as a mentor and in various other ways; follow the guidelines and sample questions discussed through meeting with the CDC Director
  7. Attend at least one career preparation workshop presented by the CDC staff

 

NOTE: Each meeting with the CDC staff will require making an appointment in advance by calling 434-947-8116 or dropping by the CDC. Appointments fill up quickly and are often booked two weeks in advance.
