Nasim Malekshah, Randolph’s newest assistant professor of economics and business, began her career as a marketing strategist for an advertising agency before serving as a consultant.
“My work in marketing, especially in advertising and data analytics, provided me with valuable insights into the industry’s evolving landscape,” she said. “I became interested in teaching as I wanted to share these insights and help students understand how to apply theoretical concepts in real-world scenarios. Teaching allows me to integrate my professional experiences with academic principles, offering students a more comprehensive learning experience.
Malekshah holds a civil engineering degree from Shahid Beheshti University and an MBA in marketing from Alzahra University in Iran.
She recently completed her PhD in marketing at Southern Illinois University and has conducted extensive research on marketing strategy, service marketing, political ideology, and multicultural marketing—a combination of practical experience and research that allows her to bridge theory and practice effectively.
“I’m so excited about my new job at Randolph and the opportunity to contribute to such a vibrant community,” she said. “I look forward to getting to know the students and my colleagues, and to bringing my passion for teaching and marketing into the classroom. This is a new chapter for me, and I’m eager to make a positive impact here.”
Here’s more of what she had to say about her initial impressions of Randolph and its students, her teaching style, and what she likes to do for fun:
What attracted you to the job here at Randolph?
I chose Randolph because it aligns perfectly with my preference for universities that strike a balance between teaching and research. I seek out institutions that provide this equilibrium, as it allows me to excel in both areas and contribute meaningfully to academia. Randolph’s commitment to fostering a supportive environment for both faculty and students makes it an ideal place for me to pursue my academic and professional goals.
Describe your teaching style. What can students expect in your classes?
My teaching style is interactive and grounded in real-world applications. In my classes, students can expect a blend of lectures, discussions, and practical projects that connect marketing theory with practice. I emphasize critical thinking and creativity, encouraging students to apply their knowledge to solve complex marketing challenges.
What are your initial impressions of Randolph and its students?
My initial impressions of Randolph have been very positive. The students are curious, motivated, and bring diverse perspectives to the classroom. The College’s strong sense of community fosters meaningful connections between students and faculty, creating an environment that is conducive to both learning and personal growth.
What do you like to do outside of the classroom as far as hobbies or other activities?
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities like hiking, biking, paddle boarding, and weight lifting in the gym. I also love watching movies, TV shows, and engaging in adventurous activities. These hobbies help me stay refreshed and bring new perspectives into my teaching.
