Warren presents at social justice conference

Karin Warren

Karin Warren

Karin Warren, Randolph’s Herzog Family Professor of Environmental Studies and Science, presented about climate resilience and heat mapping at Many Voice One Community’s 2023 Race and Social Justice Conference in Lynchburg earlier this month.

Warren and Laura Henry-Stone, an environmental sciences and sustainability professor at the University of Lynchburg, detailed their work in “Extreme Heat in Lynchburg: How Can Neighborhoods in Urban Heat Islands Build Climate Resilience?”

They have been studying climate resilience in Lynchburg since 2018. At the conference they shared results from their 2021 heat-mapping study and described their initiative to plant a forest garden at a local elementary school located in a heat island.
