The local ABC affiliate WSET recently asked Peter Sheldon, a Randolph College physics professor, to give a possible explanation for reports of “loud booms” that they had heard.
Several viewers across a wide swath of the station’s coverage area have called to report hearing loud sounds, as well as feeling the earth shake. But there were no reports of an earthquake that could have caused the phenomenon. Meanwhile, other news organizations have been sharing similar reports.
Sheldon explained that the “booms” could have been caused by construction, rock blasting, or other causes, all of which could take place in any area. Watch the story here.
