American Culture Program will study "Spectacular Bodies"

Participants in this year’s American Culture Program will travel to Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Las Vegas to examine America’s fascination with the human body.

Each spring, the American Culture Program gives students the opportunity to dive deep into a unique aspect of American life. Participants work closely with two professors throughout the semester to discover interesting facets of the topic.

Next semester, the program will explore the topic “Spectacular Bodies: America in the Flesh.” Participants will study the way Americans view the body, covering topics such as athletics, bodybuilding, and disability studies.

Julio Rodriguez, a sociology professor and director of the American Culture Program, and Maria Almanza, a visiting professor of American culture, will teach the classes and lead the trips.

Applications for the program are due October 17. Students can download an application here.
