Youssef Elkei ’13

Foreign Service Officer at the U.S. Department of State

Global Studies

Elkei joined the diplomatic corps in 2017 and was first posted in Istanbul, Turkey, where he served as a consular officer assisting American citizens overseas.

Currently stationed in Geneva, Switzerland, he focuses on climate and technology issues at the United Nations, engaging and negotiating with different countries and organizations on how to best collaborate to combat the climate crisis and other environment and technology concerns. He also works on high-profile visits from Washington.

“Randolph was an excellent place to pick up lifelong skills, knowledge, and expertise. The small class size meant that instructors had a chance to focus on each student and their specific needs—whether that was improving writing, oral, or analytical skills.,” he said. “I remember taking advantage of the RISE grant and getting practical experience in negotiation and public speaking.”

Elkei studied abroad during his time here and participated in Randolph’s National Model United Nations twice.

“Almost 10 years later, I still use the basic skill set we learned in my day-to-day work as a professional diplomat,” he said.
