Professors Karin Warren and Sarah Sojka recently attended workshops that will support ongoing curriculum development for the College’s marine science major.
Both workshops were conducted by the Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI), a National Science Foundation-funded, science-driven ocean observing network that delivers real-time data from more than 900 instruments to address critical science questions regarding the world’s oceans.
Sojka, a professor of environmental studies and marine science, attended an OOI mini workshop in February during the 2024 Ocean Sciences Meeting in New Orleans.
Warren, Randolph’s Herzog Family Chair of Environmental Studies & Science, attended a workshop in June at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
Both workshops introduced attendees to OOI’s collection of free online educational modules and lab exercises and how they can be used to support undergraduate teaching.
They also reviewed the existing collection of OOI educational resources and shared what resources, lessons, and support they’d like to see in the future to better enable them to share and use OOI data with students.
