Camille Thurman was the first woman in 30 years to tour, record, and perform full-time internationally as a saxophonist and woodwind doubler with the world-renowned Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.
Now the powerhouse vocalist and saxophonist—who Downbeat Magazine has praised for her “clear articulation, natural vibrato, soulful inflection, and remarkable Fitzgerald-esque scat prowess”—is coming to Randolph as part of the College’s Guest Artist Series.
The Camille Thurman Quintet will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, in Smith Hall Theatre.
Known for her creative brilliance, effortless mastery, and undeniably distinct approach to music, Thurman has appeared at notable venues and festivals worldwide, including The Kennedy Center, The Library of Congress, the Rose Theater, Winter Jazz Fest, and The Colbert Show.
She has five full-length recordings as a leader to her credit, was an NAACP Image Award nominee for Outstanding Jazz Album, and is a past recipient of the Fulbright Scholars Cultural Ambassador Grant and Chamber Music of America Performance Plus Grant.
She is also a two-time winner of the ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers Award. Her most recent project, Confluence: Vol 1, is a collaboration with master drummer Darrell Green and his quartet.
Tickets to her Randolph concert are $10 for general admission and free for students and children younger than 18. Visit www.randolphcollege.edu/tickets/ for more information.
This event is made possible through the generosity of The Edwin H. and Elaine Dahl St. Vincent Music Fund.
