Ryan Russell ’22 M.F.A., Randolph Writer In Residence, to read from work

Ryan Russell

Randolph College Writer in Residence Ryan Russell ’22 M.F.A. and local poet/writer Wendy Miles will read from their work at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, in Smith Memorial Building’s Alice Ashley Jack Room.

Russell is an emerging contemporary writer based in Central Virginia. She holds a bachelor’s degree in creative writing from Old Dominion University and earned her M.F.A. in creative writing from Randolph College.

After a 10-year career in medical education, she turned her attention from learning about gaps in psychology and nephrology to writing about difficult women, focusing on the juxtaposition of love and pain, self-realization, and what the actual process of healing looks like for Black
women.

As Writer in Residence at Randolph, she is teaching undergraduates the importance of fiction and is currently working on her first flash fiction collection.
