Biology professor Erin Heller recently published the article “Factors that affect migratory Western Atlantic red knots (Calidris canutus rufa) and their prey during spring staging on Virginia’s barrier islands” in PLOS One.

The peer-reviewed journal, published by the Public Library of Science, covers primary research from multiple disciplines within science and medicine.

Heller conducted the research, which aims to understand factors that influence a federally threatened shorebird species’ distribution and abundance across the annual cycle, with six other scientists from 2007 to 2018.
