Randolph College Offers Glimpse Into 18th Century Life

LYNCHBURG – Randolph College will provide a glimpse of life in an 18th century chateau in April with a multi-dimensional performance.

Alan Jones, a Paris-based dance historian and adjunct professor in French and dance, will present a “taste” of fine living on April 22 at 7 p.m. in Jack Lounge. The presentation will include the music, dance, spectacle, and diverse entertainment that made a banquet a complete theatrical experience in 18th century France.

Highlights will include excerpts from a rare 1738 musical cookbook, and participants will taste one or two dishes created from the book. Audience members will also be given the opportunity to learn a contredanse that was once performed in the presence of Marie-Antoinette.
