Meet the graduates: Elizabeth Parsons ’25

Elizabeth Parsons poses outside on campus, leaning against a railing and smiling at the cameraElizabeth Parsons ’25 has always loved learning about how our planet works—its cycles, natural processes, and how they change over time.

I’m fascinated by the interaction between people and the environment and often wonder where I fit in that story,” she said. “Even knowing I can’t do everything, I enjoy learning about everything.”

Parsons, an environmental science major, will continue that journey this summer when she starts West Virginia University’s graduate program in geographic information systems (GIS) and spatial analysis.

She originally planned to apply for WVU’s geology program, but changed her mind after taking Randolph’s GIS course, which she called challenging and rewarding.

“It blended my interest in the environment with an interdisciplinary approach that made sense,” she said. “GIS especially excites me because it allows us to visualize and analyze environmental change on a broader scale. It’s a powerful tool for solving real-world problems—thankfully, one highly valued in the job market.”

A member of the College’s SUPER program (Step Up to Physical Sciences and Engineering at Randolph), she’s grateful for the tight-knit support system and hands-on, interdisciplinary education she found here.

“I originally came to Randolph just for a degree, but I’m leaving with much more,” Parsons said. “I’ve built a network of professors, friends, and peers who have guided me throughout my journey here. Randolph has a community that values people and their passions, whatever they may be. I’m proud to say my degree is from here—and I’m excited to carry that forward.”
