Endstation kicking off summer season with the Central Virginia Fringe Festival

Endstation Theatre Company’s summer season begins with a brand new event—the Central Virginia Fringe Festival—and continues with the premiere of an original production and performances of a Shakespeare classic.

A weeklong celebration of theatrical works and performances, the Central Virginia Fringe Festival runs from June 14-21 all over campus.

The opening performance of A.R. Gurney’s Pulitzer-nominated Love Letters is scheduled for 8 p.m. June 14 in Wimberly Recital Hall.

It stars Lynchburg natives Paul Fitzgerald and Allison Daugherty, who both have had successful careers on Broadway and in film and television. Fitzgerald was most recently seen on Shonda Rhimes’ new Netflix series The Residence, and Daugherty has appeared in films like I Dreamed of Africa and on television in Sex and the City and Madam Secretary.

Performances continue throughout the week, a mix of classics like Rent (performed by local high school students and graduates) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (presented by Mended Wing Theatre Company out of North Carolina) to original works. The full schedule can be found here

The festival culminates with Endstation’s own original production, Whirlwind.

The play, which was featured during Endstation’s Playwright’s Initiative Reading Festival last year, tells the story of Dr. Robert Walter “Whirlwind” Johnson, a Lynchburg physician, former college athlete, coach, and activist who was a driving force behind breaking racial barriers in tennis.

Performances are scheduled on select dates June 21 to 29 in Thoresen Theatre.

The summer season concludes with a Shakespeare staple, Much Ado About Nothing, on select dates from July 2-20 at Point of Honor.
