Randolph included in Princeton Review’s ‘Guide to Green Colleges’

Randolph College has once again been named one of the nation’s most “green” colleges, according to new rankings released by The Princeton Review.

The College was included in The Princeton Review’s Guide to Green Colleges: 2025 Edition, which recognizes the 511 most environmentally responsible colleges in the nation.

Randolph was ranked 19th, the only Virginia institution to make the top 20, alongside the likes of New York University, Colorado State, Bates College, and the University of Miami.  

The Princeton Review chose schools based on a 2023-24 survey it conducted with administrators at nearly 600 colleges about their institutions’ sustainability-related policies, practices, and programs. The company also surveyed students attending the colleges about their “green” campus experiences. 

The rating methodology considers how environmentally responsible a school’s policies are and if students have a campus quality of life that is both healthy and sustainable. The score is also based on how well the school is preparing students for employment in a clean-energy economy as well as for citizenship in a world now defined by environmental concerns and opportunities.

On a scale of 60-99, Randolph scored a perfect green rating of 99. 

The Princeton Review is seeing substantive interest among college applicants in attending green colleges. Of the nearly 8,000 college-bound students the company polled for its 2024 College Hopes & Worries Survey, 61% said having information about a college’s commitment to the environment would affect their decision to apply to or attend a school. 

The Green Rating scores appear in each school’s profile on The Princeton Review website and in profiles included in the 2025 edition of The Best 390 Colleges.
