Phase One of the Martin Science Building renovation is in process, with the newly renovated fourth floor organic chemistry lab now back online for the fall semester.
Named for trustee emerita Elizabeth A. Grimm ’71, the lab includes a learning space in the center for lectures and group work, surrounded by fume hoods. These enclosures safely contain and ventilate fumes, vapors, gasses and dust generated by the chemical processes being performed—and the glass walls allow everyone to keep an eye on what’s happening around the room.
The lab is physically connected to the instrument room where students are able to analyze their samples.
Critical systems such as HVAC and mechanical ventilation, and energy recovery throughout the building have also received updates, and work is also progressing on the new entry ramp and accessible entry at the rear of the building on the Norfolk Avenue side.
