Jenna McDermott ’25 reflects on summer work as a game warden

Jenna McDermott '25, who worked as a Delaware National Resources Fish and Wildlife Seasonal Police Officer this summer, poses in uniform.

For Jenna McDermott ’25, Randolph’s TAKE2 curriculum model is a game changer.

“It has really helped me with time management, thinking fast on my feet, and being able to learn material quickly,” said the environmental studies major.

McDermott used all of those skills this summer while working as a Delaware National Resources Fish and Wildlife Seasonal Police Officer.

She’s using the 40-hours-a-week job—which has her enforcing fishing, hunting, and boating laws and regulations—as an internship.

McDermott applied for the position after seeing it posted on social media. After landing the job, she completed a training camp, where she learned the basics of law enforcement, first aid, CPR, and laws and regulations.

“Since training, I have checked fishing licenses, done boating safety checks, monitored wildlife areas, security details and shadowed full-time officers,” said McDermott, who would like to be a game warden after graduation.

“I have always enjoyed being outside, so learning about sustainability here at Randolph, and how we can preserve our natural resources, is something I’m really passionate about.”
