This is part of a new series profiling Randolph College transfer students.
Hometown: Evington, Virginia
Major: History
Can you share a little more about your background and how you became interested in your major?
“History, especially 19th century American history, has always fascinated me. I knew by the time I was in middle school that I wanted to do something with it. I consider myself a Civil War nerd and enjoy reading, writing, gaming, and just simply enjoying the company of my friends.”
Why did you want to transfer to Randolph?
“After two years and a semester at CVCC, I figured I had to get myself over to a four-year college to start on my major. I was attracted to the concept of a liberal arts college and somewhere smaller. Randolph seemed to fit both those criteria so I applied.”
What has your time behind the Red Brick Wall been like so far?
“My time here has been great, I have met and befriended some wonderful people. Academically, I have finally found a path forward, in terms of what I want to pursue with a history degree thanks to Dr. Sherayko in the history department. I feel at home at Randolph despite only being in my second semester.”
What advice would you give to other transfer students?
“The best advice I could give is just try and immerse yourself into Randolph’s culture. Ask questions liberally and keep an open mind.”
What is special about Randolph?
“While I am still in my first year here, I can already say confidently that Randolph’s staff and faculty are what make it special. I have encountered nothing but the nicest and most genuinely caring individuals just walking around campus. There truly is a unique warmness.”
