Transfer student Q&A: Sydney Preas ’26

This is part of a series profiling Randolph College transfer students

Apply to Randolph College

Sydney Preas ’26

Hometown: Altavista, Virginia

Major: Marine science

Can you share more about your background and how you became interested in your major?

“Although I grew up in a rural area with no beach nearby, I always felt connected to the ocean. I thought it would be impossible to pursue this career without being near the ocean until I discovered Randolph. I was settling for less by choosing other career paths I wasn’t interested in and after touring Randolph, I absolutely fell in love with it.”

What has your time behind the Red Brick Wall been like?

“Amazing. I have been given so many opportunities I thought I’d never get to experience, from going to the Eastern Shore to getting the opportunity to go whale watching with my professor. Not to mention how amazing the staff here at Randolph has been. I have gotten so much help. I have felt right at home.”

What advice would you give to other transfer students?

“The advice I would give is make that move. Don’t be afraid to make that change and further your degree. I let fear hold me back from so many opportunities, and I am so glad I didn’t let it hold me back from transferring. Randolph has been such a blessing in my life, and I wouldn’t change it for anything.”

What is special about Randolph College?

“There are endless opportunities for everyone here, and the staff does all they can to help every student have a chance in succeeding.”
