Transfer student Q&A: Ava Skinner ’24

This is part of a new series profiling Randolph College transfer students.

Apply to Randolph College

Ava Skinner ’24

Hometown: Lynchburg, Virginia

Major: Elementary education

Can you share more about your background and how you became interested in your major?

I knew I wanted to be an elementary school teacher as early as middle school. I have always loved working with children and watching them grow and learn. When I came to Randolph, I knew immediately I was going to major in elementary education. I chose to transfer to Randolph because I was recruited to swim here and I was attracted to the TAKE2 program.

What has your time behind the Red Brick Wall been like?

I have enjoyed my time these last 3 years at Randolph, and I can’t believe I am graduating soon. I have made so many unforgettable memories and have met some amazing people here. Being a transfer student seemed a little scary at first when I saw everyone had already made their friend groups, but I ended up meeting people my sophomore year who were in the same position as me and had just transferred to Randolph as well.

What advice would you give to other transfer students?

I would encourage other transfer students to step out of their comfort zone. The majority of your class will have already known each other since their first year, but you must put yourself out there to meet new people.

What is special about Randolph College?

TAKE2. I can’t even imagine going back to five classes at once now!
