Karin Warren, Randolph’s Herzog Family Professor of Environmental Studies & Science, was recently named president of the Association of Environmental Studies & Science (AESS).
Warren was installed during a joint conference between AESS and the Association for the Study of Literature and Environment, in Portland, Oregon, in July.
At the conference, Warren also presented a research talk, “Climate-resilient urban food forests to address climate vulnerability, food insecurity, and inequitable heat risks in Lynchburg, VA,” during a panel on food justice and led the discussion “Getting the most from external reviews before, during, and after.”
She followed her time in Oregon up with a presentation about heat mapping and community climate resilience during the Resilient Virginia conference in early August.
The conference, held at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, focused on economic opportunities for community resilience. Warren participated in the collaborative workshop “Urban Forest Projects for Resiliency” with Laura Henry-Stone, a professor at the University of Lynchburg.
