Cierra Cook ’23 M.A.T. enrolled in Randolph’s Master of Arts in Teaching program after graduating from Bluefield University, where she majored in biology with a pre-health concentration and minored in chemistry, in 2021.
She was a member of the women’s basketball team during her first year in the program, then transitioned to an assistant coach for the 2022-23 season while also teaching biology at E.C. Glass High School.
“Working full-time while earning a masters was a bit stressful but it shows how strong mentally and physically you are,” she said. “I had a ton going on but it shows me that I can persevere through anything.”
Cook has accepted a job teaching high school biology in Franklin, Virginia, outside of Suffolk and closer to her hometown in Chesapeake.
“It feels great to be moving back home,” she said. “I am excited to see what the next couple of years have in store for me. But I am forever grateful to Randolph College for molding me into a teacher and E.C. Glass for the beginning of my journey as an educator.”
