Academic Services Center addresses online learning needs

Randolph’s Academic Services Center is offering all of its usual services this semester, with some added elements to address online learning needs.

Most tutoring will become available during the second and third weeks of classes. Students can register for services at randolph.mywconline.com, where they’ll find online instructions and appointments for writing, academic strategies, and subject tutoring.

The Center’s Moodle Page also is up and running, full of tips and tricks for navigating the upcoming semester—everything from online learning strategies to yoga and mindfulness apps to time management and note-taking templates, said Grant Kittrell, director of the Academic Services Center and the Writing Program.

The newly digital Surface Matters mini-manual, a quick reference for common college-level writing errors, is also available to students, with an easy-to-navigate index.

Kittrell said they’ll be looking for input from students and faculty on what’s missing from both sites. Suggestions for the Moodle page can be sent here, and suggestions for additional writing topics or resources for Surface Matters can be sent to Kittrell at gkittrell@randolphcollege.edu.

“The upcoming semester will not come without its own unique set of challenges, and the acknowledgement of these challenges may be a great starting point,” he said. “From there, we can acknowledge that we are all in this together, and that the support of our peers, faculty, and staff is ever-present. Among these networks of support, the ASC will be here through all of your academic endeavors—so please, don’t hesitate to reach out.”

Academic advice and consultation also can be sought by emailing Kittrell. General questions can be sent to Tamlyn Austin at taustin@randolphcollege.edu. And make sure to check out the center’s tips for remote learning (link below), which has been updated since the spring.
