A message from President Bateman regarding business air travel

The following e-mail regarding the College’s travel policies was sent to staff and faculty today.

—————————————————————————————————–
Dear faculty and staff colleagues,

As the coronavirus continues to spread more and more rapidly, we are forced to respond more and more aggressively. During the last few days, the physicians and epidemiologists at the CDC seem to be sending a consistent message that only a small window of time is left to keep the virus from becoming a more difficult problem.

In particular, we can help diminish the spread of the virus through social distancing. In this spirit, we are ceasing all air travel for College business until further notice. Of course, people who are away from campus today on College business will return home, but until further notice no new travel can begin at the College’s expense.

If you already have purchased a ticket for air travel, you should attempt to get a refund or a credit for travel at a later date. If you cannot get a credit or refund, the College will reimburse the cost of your ticket. But this may mean that there will not be another chance for you to travel again this fiscal year.

If you have questions on how the new policy affects you, please contact the vice president to whom you report.

Best wishes,

Bradley W. Bateman
President
