Kakenya Ntaiya ’04, founder of the nonprofit Kakenya’s Dream and the Kakenya Center for Excellence, is featured in a new TED Talk. Her work is also mentioned in Melinda Gates’ new book, The Moment of Lift, which is forthcoming in April.
Ntaiya’s TED Talk was released on Monday, April 15, and is available here. She gave a previous TED Talk in 2013 entitled “A Girl Who Demanded School.”
Ntaiya, who opened the Kakenya Center for Excellence in her hometown in Kenya, has received multiple international recognitions for her efforts to educate girls and end the practice of female genital mutilation. In 2013, she was named one of CNN’s Top 10 Heroes, earned the Global Women’s Right Award from the Feminist Majority Foundation, and was recognized by the Women of the World as a “Woman of Impact.” In 2015, she received one of Randolph’s highest honors when she was presented an Alumna Achievement Award.
