Randolph College to Discuss Eating Locally Versus Globally

LYNCHBURG — Randolph College will host an evening of discussion about communities and food related issues April 23 at 7:30 p.m.

The free lecture, “Eating Locally vs. Globally: The Benefits and Consequences of Everyday Food Decisions,” in Martin 315 is open to the public.

Brett Wilson, head of Horse and Buggy Produce, will lead the discussion, which will address how eating and buying locally produced food ties together a variety of related issues such as food sustainability, safety, health, soil conservation, global warming, and local farmers and their relationships to nearby communities.

Wilson is widely-known for his subscription-based service that links families with locally-grown food from more than 100 family farms and orchards. Most of the company’s growers are members of a Mennonite community in the Shenandoah Valley who not only have been farmers for generations, but also employ timeless methods for raising fruits and vegetables without using synthetic pesticides.
