Randolph College Scores High on NSSE Survey

LYNCHBURG — Randolph College’s close community and academic program once again helped it garner strong scores on the 2008 National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE).

The college achieved strong scores on the five benchmarks of effective educational practice reported by NSSE, particularly in those areas reflective of the college’s close student-faculty relationships, its strong academic program, and the rich geographic and ethnic diversity of its students.

Compared with colleges nationally, Randolph students reported significantly higher scores in benchmarks of student-faculty interaction, level of academic challenge, and enriching educational experiences. The college was also significantly higher for first-year students on supportive campus environment and approximately at the national benchmark for active and collaborative learning.

NSSE is a nationally-respected survey of first-year and senior students at colleges and universities nationwide. The survey, administered by the NSSE office at the University of Indiana, collects information annually from students about the nature and quality of their undergraduate experience and the extent to which they are engaged in effective educational practices empirically linked with learning, personal development, and other desired outcomes.

More than 770 colleges and universities participated in the spring 2008 administration of the survey.
