MUHS Collections Assistant

Job Title:  MUHS Collections Assistant 

Department:  Museum and Heritage Studies

Supervisor: Emilie Bryant, ebryant@randolphcollege.edu

Essential Functions:

Assignments are based on student’s experience/skills and collection manager’s needs and may include:

  • Helping with collection duties (updating display cases, condition reports, cataloging objects, monitoring collection space, and weekly cleaning.)
  • Assisting with marketing the museum and programs to students and the community through placement of promotional flyers.
  • supporting faculty or classroom needs (preparing materials, research, assisting with object prep, packing and unpacking objects, moving objects, and general collections support)
  • Preparing for exhibition (installation/deinstallation assistance, research)
  • Working with collections (inventory and database management, digitalizing, written verbal descriptions of works in the collections.

Qualifications:

  • Must have strong organizational skills, computer skills and attention to detail. Must have strong research and writing skills. Prefer students majoring in museum and heritage studies, art history, studio art, history, communications, media or education, though students from all major are encouraged to apply.

Working Environment: 

  • Position works in a museum environment and office environment. Requires standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods. Mau occasionally lift  10-15 lbs. Works well independently and follows safety and security Protocols.

Pay: $12.41/Hour

Hours: Up to 7 hours/week but can vary, space can be open Monday-Sunday. Scheduling will be done in advance and be adaptive to individual needs but expect to be in the space during afternoons/evenings.

Length of Employment: August 2025 to May 2026

Number of positions available:  1, 3 hours a week

You will also be required to complete FERPA training (online) and work and confidentiality agreements. You will not be able to begin work or get paid before you complete these items. See the Human Resources Office, located in Main Hall for more information on the required documentation. The HR office is located in Main Hall and is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 to 5:00 pm.
