MAIER MUSEUM OF ART STUDENT ASSISTANT

 

Job Title:  Maier Museum Assistant 

Department:  Maier Museum of Art

Supervisor: Laura McManus – lmcmanus@randolphcollege.edu 

Number of positions available: 1

Essential Functions: Assist Museum staff with various projects and tasks. Assignments are based on student’s experience/skills and Museum’s needs and may include: 

  • Helping with administrative duties (mailings, clerical support, writing correspondence to prospective students, maintaining museum spaces) Assisting with marketing the museum and programs to students and the community through social media platforms 
  • Creating short form video for website and social media 
  • Supporting educational programs (preparing materials, research, assisting with public programs, tours and docent training. administrative support) Preparing for exhibitions (installation/deinstallation assistance, research)
  •  Working with collections (inventory and database management, digitizing, writing verbal descriptions of works in the collection) 

Qualifications: Must have strong organizational skills, computer skills, and attention to detail. Must have strong research and writing skills. Prefer students majoring in museum and heritage studies, art history, studio art, history, communications, media, or education, though students from all majors are encouraged to apply. 

Working Environment: Position works in a museum environment and office environment. Requires standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods. May occasionally lift 10-15 lbs.

Hours: 4-5 hours/week

If Hired: You must complete federal and state withholding documents, Form I-9 (which requires you to show proof of eligibility to work in the US), and bank direct deposit information, as well as all necessary items in our payroll system, Paycom. You will also be required to complete FERPA training (online) and work and confidentiality agreements. You will not be able to begin work or get paid before you complete these items. See the Human Resources Office, located in Main Hall for more information on the required documentation. The HR office is located in Main Hall and is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 to 5:00 pm.
