Training Information

Required Training for Investigators

All students, faculty, and staff listed on a submitted protocol must complete training prior to final protocol approval. To facilitate training at Randolph College, the College has subscribed to the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI). Students, faculty, and staff may register for the required coursework online at https://www.citiprogram.org.

Students

Students must complete registration and the following modules:

Required Course

  1. Students Working with Animals (3 required modules and 2 elective modules)

Complete appropriate species-specific electives:

  1. Working with Frogs, Toads, or other Amphibians
  2. Working with Mice. Family: Muridae Cricetidae
  3. Working with Rats. Genus: Rattus
  4. Working with Fish
  5. Working with Zebrafish
  6. Wildlife Research
  7. Working with Horses in an Agricultural Research Setting

Depending on the nature of animal use, other modules may be required by the IACUC. The Chair of the IACUC will inform investigators if additional modules are required.

Faculty and Staff

Faculty (including faculty advisors of student research) and staff must complete registration and the following modules:

    Required Course:

    1. Stage 1 – Lab Animal Research – Researcher (4 required modules and 1 elective module)

    Complete appropriate species-specific electives:

    1. Working with Frogs, Toads, or other Amphibians
    2. Working with Mice. Family: Muridae Cricetidae
    3. Working with Rats. Genus: Rattus
    4. Working with Fish
    5. Working with Zebrafish
    6. Wildlife Research
    7. Working with Horses in an Agricultural Research Setting

    Training Requirements for IACUC Members

    The IACUC shall set its own requirements for completion of training. The IACUC training requirement will consist of all of the training required of students, faculty, and staff plus other modules specificity related to IACUC conduct. The IACUC may require the completion of additional training when other needs are indicated.

    Other Training Requirements

    Investigators conducting grant-funded research should check with Randolph College’s Sponsored Programs Officer for further training requirements beyond what is required by the Randolph College Animal Care and Use Policy.
