2012 Fiske Guide to Colleges Recognizes Randolph as One of Nation's Best

LYNCHBURG – Randolph College was again recognized as one of the nation’s “best and most interesting” institutions in the 2012 Fiske Guide to Colleges.

The Fiske Guide does not rank universities and colleges numerically, but assesses the strengths and weaknesses of the top 330 schools in the United States, Canada, and Great Britain.

Schools included in the popular guidebook were chosen from the more than 2,200 four-year colleges in the nation. Only 12 Virginia institutions were included.

The Fiske profile touts Randolph’s strong academic programs, faculty/student relationships, close community, and international focus.

“Though the Randolph community is small, students need not worry about claustrophobia; worldliness is a part of life here,” the guide reports adding that “the students of Randolph aren’t shy about their academic goals, career drive, or sense of campus unity.”

The guide also described the typical Randolph student as “smart, dedicated, quirky, fun-loving, and determined.”

Compiled by former New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske, the best-selling guidebook, “Fiske Guide to Colleges 2012” ($23.99) offers “a selective, subjective and systematic look” at more than 300 colleges and universities in the United States, Canada and Great Britain. The independent guide offers no advertising nor collects fees from any of the colleges it covers.
