Betty Skeen (she/her) holds a BA in Dance from Sweet Briar College and an MFA from University of Maryland, College Park.
In addition to her freelance performance and choreography credits, she is a collaborator and company member with PearsonWidrig DanceTheater, recently completing a tour in France and preparing for a tour to Mexico this spring.
Her original work has been shown extensively in the Metro-D.C. area as well as in NYC, Brooklyn, the greater Hudson Valley, Virginia, Maryland, South Carolina, and Italy. Her work has been honored with two Metro-DC Dance Awards, and has been recognized by the American College Dance Association.
As a performer, she has performed in works by choreographers such as Joseph Poulson, Colleen Thomas, Tzveta Kassabova, Aviva Geismar, Alvin Mayes, Megan Harrold, Angela Foster, Sarah Skaggs, Dahlia Nayar, Sandra Neels, Dawn Springer, Billy Siegenfeld, Gesel Mason, and many others.
Before joining the faculty at Randolph, she served as the chair of the Dance program at Sweet Briar College for five years, and was a guest choreographer at the University of Virginia.
She lives in Lynchburg with her partner, two young daughters, and four rescue dogs.
