Admission Requirements

M.A.T. Candidates:

Candidates for the Master of Arts in Teaching should submit the following to the Admissions Office:

  • Graduate Application for Admission – see online link to Apply as a Graduate Student.
  • Personal statement of at least 500 words focusing on your motivation for entering the program
  • Official transcripts from all undergraduate institutions attended
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 in prerequisite education coursework
  • A minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.00 grading system in major or field of interest (probationary acceptance considered on a case by case basis)
  • Results of professional teachers’ examinations prescribed by the Virginia Department of Education
  • Two Letters of Recommendation
  • Scheduled interview with the Director of the Education Program

Current Randolph College students are not required to interview with the Director of the Education Program if they are already accepted into the Randolph College Teacher Education Program. They must complete a Graduate Application for Admission in their senior year and submit letters of recommendation attesting to their graduate-level ability.

Students who hold a bachelor’s degree from another institution may participate in the M.A.T. program. Contact the Admissions Office for details and an evaluation of undergraduate transcripts for licensure. Additional coursework may be required for general licensure outside of the endorsement areas in curriculum and instruction or special education.

Application deadline for M.A.T. summer session is May 1

Application deadline for M.A.T. fall semester is July 1
