Opportunities for Experience

Study Abroad

Majors are encouraged to study abroad in summer and junior-year programs. Exchange programs exist with the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain and the Universidad de las Américas in Puebla, Mexico. Learn more about study abroad opportunities.

Spanish Club

Majors are also encouraged to participate in the Spanish Club, which organizes trips, speakers, Spanish films, and campus events designed to introduce students to Hispanic foods and customs.

Summer Research

Spend the summer working closely with a professor and focused on a specific aspect of Spanish.

Randolph’s intensive eight-week Summer Research Program enables students to conduct research that is complemented by a thorough review of the relevant literature; live in a residence hall on campus, participate in on-campus summer events, attend special seminars with guest speakers; and share the progress and results of their research. Learn more about the Summer Research Program.

Senior Seminar

The Senior Seminar in Spanish gives students the chance to study an author or topic in depth and to present their research in short papers throughout the year.

Sigma Delta Pi

The Chi Beta chapter of the national Spanish honor society Sigma Delta Pi was installed September 29, 2005.

Sigma Delta Pi seeks to deepen understanding of the Hispanic world, to foster an appreciation for Hispanic culture, and to recognize high student achievement in advanced Spanish courses. Membership is not limited to Spanish majors.

As part of its mission of greater understanding of Hispanic culture, Sigma Delta Pi offers travel scholarships to countries where Spanish is the primary language. Any student member may apply for these competitive awards.
