Holly Tatum published in ‘International Journal of Educational Integrity’

Holly Tatum, Randolph’s Mary Sabel Girard ’34 Professor of Psychology, recently published an article, “MIAMI: Development and Validation of an Updated Measure of Academic Misconduct,” in the International Journal of Educational Integrity.

Tatum collaborated with researchers in the United States and abroad to update and validate an instrument to measure academic misconduct.

Originally created in the 1980s, McCabe/ICAI Academic Misconduct Inventory, or MIAMI, measures misconduct behaviors, as well as factors that predict academic misconduct including integrity climate, peer norms, moral attitudes, and achievement goal structures.

Recognizing the need to continue to understand academic misconduct in a 21st-century context, Tatum and her colleagues surveyed more than 2,300 college students.

The updated measure will facilitate research on academic cheating as it provides a tool that researchers from universities across world can use. It is also being translated into several other languages and can be used to test the effectiveness of academic integrity programs and interventions.
