Registration open for 2022 Freedom School

Registration is open for Freedom School 2022, a partnership between The Listening, Inc. and Randolph College.

An initiative of the Children’s Defense Fund, Freedom Schools offer a free, six-week summer literacy and cultural enrichment program for K-12 students in communities where quality academic enrichment programming is limited, too expensive, or non-existent.

The Listening’s 2022 Freedom School runs from June 13 to July 22 on Randolph’s campus. The program theme this summer is Time Traveling, which will explore the use of the performing arts to make an impact on social justice, education, and mental health from the 1970s to today—and what the future holds for artists and activists.

Sessions are led by highly qualified, college-aged interns from a variety of academic disciplines. In addition to educational activities, students in the program receive two nutritious meals a day as well as a new book each week to build their home libraries.

They will also participate in the 2022 National Day of Social Action, which this year focuses on climate justice and environmental issues.
