Several Randolph professors granted tenure

The Randolph College Board of Trustees recently granted tenure to philosophy professor Kaija Mortensen, biology professor Amanda Rumore and mathematics professor Jia Wan.

All three will be promoted from assistant to associate professors effective July 1.

Mortensen, who came to Randolph in 2013, earned her undergraduate degree in philosophy from Colorado College and her Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She is the chair of the philosophy department and faculty coordinator for Randolph’s Ethics Bowl Team.

Rumore, who arrived in 2012 as a visiting assistant professor, earned both her undergraduate degree and her Ph.D. in biological sciences from Virginia Tech. A lifelong equestrienne, she also serves as coordinator for the equine studies minor and has completed several summer research projects with students focused on horses and their health.

Wan started teaching at Randolph in 2013, after earning her undergraduate degree in mathematics from the University of Science and Technology of China and her Ph.D. from the University of Idaho. She advises Randolph’s Mathematical Contest of Modeling team and is the faculty representative for the National Center for Women and Informational Technology. .
