Randolph College Theatre is seeking interested candidates for a staff appointment as Costume Shop
Supervisor to run the costume shop and facilities, building a four-show season during the academic year,
beginning late August. Our production venues are Thoresen Theatre, the Lab Theatre, and the Whiteside
Greek Theatre. This position will supervise production lab and volunteer students during shop hours, 25
hours a week as well as:
Oversee all operations of the costume department
Maintain show budgets for the costume shop
Coordinate with production department heads
Supervise the management and education of costume department work studies, assistant
costume designers and students
Create and maintain costume department inventory
Follow all Randolph College safety protocols
Participate in the educational environment of Randolph College
Perform other show specific duties as assigned
A successful candidate will:
Have completed a BA or BFA in Theatre Design/Technology or related field of study.
Experience in some or all of the following: Fabric dyeing and printing, garment draping, costume
crafts and millinery.
Be capable of working directly with Guest Designers to ensure execution of all aspects of costume
designs, participate in fittings, consultations, and facilitate shop work as needed
Excellent sewing/construction skills are essential and design experience is a plus.
Additional assignments (with additional pay) for Costume Designing a production are possible for
Qualified candidates with a Graduate degree (or at least 18 hours toward a Graduate degree) are
also eligible to teach our Costume Design and Technology course (with additional pay).
Randolph College (established as Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in 1891), is a selective liberal arts
college in the central Virginia foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Department of Theatre offers a
BA degree with emphasis in performance or design/tech, and an interdisciplinary BFA in coordination with
other Arts programs. The production program involves an average of 80 – 100 individuals from a broad
spectrum of majors across campus with average of 3 theatre majors per class year.
