Lynchburg Parks and Recreation – Citywide Recreation Outreach & Direct Marketing

Job Title:  Citywide Recreation Outreach & Direct Marketing

Department: Off-Campus (Lynchburg Parks and Recreation)

Number of positions available:  2

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with developing engaging social media content for independent Citywide Center social media pages on Facebook and Instagram and gathering content to share with the LPRD marketing division to strategically promote Citywide programs and events.
  • Design and creation of digital and printed flyers and newsletters.
  • Video content creation and editing for virtual programs and advertisement.
  • Distribute posters and flyers around community.
  • Capturing programs and events through quality photography and video.
  • Organizing digital photo and video files in SmugMug storage account.
  • Provides own transportation.

Secondary Job Duties

  • Attend monthly citywide team meetings and meetings for special events.
  • Review and understand LPRD mission, values, goals, facilities, departmental divisions, programs, and events, with a focus on Citywide Recreation Centers.
  • Assist in creating a successful community engagement plan to strengthen Lynchburg Parks & Recreation’s resources and presence within Lynchburg and the surrounding area.
  • Support coordination and management of a departmental community outreach program to promote Citywide programs and events.
  • Help develop tabling outreach materials, swag, and giveaways.
  • Research and attend local community events.
  • Maintain attendance tracking and submit monthly progress reports to supervisor.
  • Assist with writing press releases for upcoming programs and events.

Qualifications: Communication (both written and verbal), personal responsibility, time management, organization, flexibility, the ability to work independently. Computer, social media, digital photography, graphic design, and video technology skills required.

Must be eligible for Federal Work Study and have own transportation.

Working Environment:  Miller Center – 301 Grove Street

Pay: $11.00 per hour

Hours: Varied mornings, afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends as needed and available. Hours can be flexible with student’s school schedule. Hours per week 10 – 20 depending on scheduled programs.

Degree of Physical Risk: Some degree due to possible participation and assistance with recreation activities, and some lifting of equipment.
