Job Title:  Resident Assistant

Department:  Dean of Students

Essential Functions:

The Resident Assistant (RA), in partnership with the Office of Residence Life, is responsible for the general well-being of the residents who live in the Randolph community. The successful RA will foster a collegial atmosphere and a positive, respectful, and inclusive community conducive to student and staff development, as well as academic success. The RA is supervised by Head Residents (HRs), the Residence Life Coordinator, and the Director of Residence Life & Conduct.

Student Development  

∙ Actively work with hall staff and students to develop and maintain a community conducive to academic and emotional growth.

∙ Serve as a strong role model to students, both in and out of the residential halls.

∙ Conduct “Wellness Checks” for residents as needed within the designated hall.

∙ Counsel individual students and make referrals when appropriate.

∙ Mediate roommate/resident conflicts and assist in resolving student issues in a timely manner.

∙ Facilitate community meetings as needed.

∙ Enforce Randolph College policy and if still applicable, the COVID guidelines/procedures.

Administrative 

∙ Create bulletin boards, door decs, and locator boards within the RA’s assigned residential hall(s) as needed.

∙ Complete programming requirements as needed.

∙ Maintain a constant awareness of building operational needs as well as fire safety and security regulations.

∙ Submit and follow-up on Building and Grounds (B&G) work order requests in a timely manner.

∙ Attend weekly (or bi-weekly) hall staff meetings and one on ones with their HR as well as monthly ‘all-staff  present’ dates such as In-Services.

∙ Communicate on a regular basis with their most-immediate supervisor.

∙ Complete administrative reports and documents as needed such as housing occupancy/rosters, Incident  Reports, Wellness Checks, Room Condition Forms (RCFs), and Health & Safety Inspections.

∙ Assist in the Opening and Closing of the residential halls in an efficient manner during the beginning and end of  the school year as well as academic breaks in which the residential halls close.

∙ Assist with the Spring Student Leader Selection Process and the Room Selection process.

∙ Participate in a Duty rotation with all other RAs.

∙ Respond to emergency and crisis situations as they arise.

Community Building 

∙ Fulfill requirements of the Common Conversations model, which at base includes holding two intentional  conversations with residents on the RA’s assigned hall(s) during both the Fall and Spring Semesters.

∙ Participate in and assist with one campus event held by a faculty/staff member in order to enrich the RA’s  experience as a student as well as gain skills and/or knowledge that will help with their residents.

∙ Be aware of and involve residents in other campus events/resources that help build community and foster  student development.

∙ Assist the Office of Residence Life in planning campus wide initiatives as needed.

Ethical Standards 

∙ The use of the Residence Life workroom should be used and treated as a shared space. Staff are expected to  clean and sanitize after themselves when finished with the use of the workroom.

∙ RAs are discouraged from entering into any romantic relationships with residents on their hall or halls they are  responsible for. When in doubt, staff must report to their supervisor.

∙ Residence Life staff are subject to all Student Handbook/residential hall policies, the Honor Code, and if  applicable, COVID regulations.

∙ Any online representation of staff should reflect high ethical and professional standards.

∙ Conversations about student matters are confidential and should not be discussed in public nor with individuals  not associated with the incident(s).

Qualifications:

∙ Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.

∙ Be in good academic and disciplinary standing across the College.

∙ Live on campus during the 2024-2025 Academic Year.

∙ Be enrolled in the Fall Semester with anticipation that the RA will enroll in the Spring as well.

∙ Participate in the Student Leader Selection Process.

∙ Attend Fall Training in August and Winter Training in January, dates to be determined.

∙ Complete a Work-Study Agreement and/or other requirements shared by Human Resources.

Pay: $12.00/Hour

Hours: The standard hours of work for Residence Assistants are 12.5 hours per week. Work hours are subject to change during  Fall and Winter Trainings. Residence Life staff are not paid during scheduled breaks (i.e. Fall, Winter, and Spring breaks) as salary is contingent upon classes being in session.

Length of Employment: August 2025 to May 2026

If Hired: You must complete federal and state withholding documents, Form I-9 (which requires you to show proof of eligibility to work in the US), and bank direct deposit information, as well as all necessary items in our payroll system, Paycom. You will also be required to complete FERPA training (online) and work and confidentiality agreements. You will not be able to begin work or get paid before you complete these items. See the Human Resources Office, located in Main Hall for more information on the required documentation. The HR office is located in Main Hall and is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 to 5:00 pm.
