Randolph College Summer Film Club
Hollywood vs. . . .
We all know that Hollywood plays favorites! In this series, Dr. Gauthier examines some of the most famous Hollywood snubs and asks for your opinion on “why the hate.” Feel free to watch the films mentioned in advance, or just come to hang out with other Randolph cinephiles! Each session takes place from 6-7pm on Zoom.
July 30: Hollywood vs. Spike Lee
Nominated only once for Best Director for BlacKkKlansman in 2019, Lee won his only competitive Oscar for the film’s Best Original Screenplay. Lee was reportedly so annoyed at his Best Picture loss, he tried to leave the theater. Fans of Do the Right Thing (1990) might be surprised to learn that it was totally omitted from the Best Picture category (Driving Miss Daisy won that year). Why won’t Hollywood do the right thing when it comes to Spike Lee?
We will send the Zoom link when you register!
We look forward to seeing you!
