Live Shots and Lockdowns: Life of an American Journalist In The New China

February 21, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Learn how Chinese, Political Science and Media Studies at Randolph College launched this young graduate’s career in international journalism. Cale Holmes ’16 began his journey of studying Chinese language and culture when attending Randolph College. Cale majored in Political Science, minored in Chinese Studies and wrote for The Sundial. These experiences, in addition to a Duke University language immersion program, propelled him on his path to becoming an international journalist in Beijing. Cale will discuss his professional and personal experiences living in China under its zero-COVID policy and during a period of historic political changes. Cale speaks to how Randolph’s Chinese language classes inspired him to consider a life in China, and how students interested in a career in communications or public policy can best prepare themselves through learning languages and cultural immersion.
