Assistive Technology

echo smart pen
Smart pens assist students with note taking for all types of classes.  These pens can record class lectures, create digital files of notes, serve as a quiz and flashcard system, and most importantly, allow students to customize the way they learn!  You can obtain one of these pens and the accompanying notebook by contacting Tina Barnes (tbarnes@randolphcollege.edu).

Read & Write Gold

Read and Write Gold is a great software that students can easily download to their computers. The software can read webpages, online articles, and notes to the student, while he or she follows along on the screen.  In addition, students can scan and upload books or class notes to the software.  Read and Write also provides students with tools to organize their notes, such as highlighting options and note-grouping settings. Visit www.texthelp.com for more information.

Learning Ally logo

Learning Ally is a kind of online library.  Students can search for books (novels, textbooks, study books) and add them to their online bookshelf.  Once the books are added, students can use the technology to read the books aloud to them.  This is a wonderful tool for students who are audio learners, as well as for students who suffer concussions from athletic injuries. Visit www.learningally.org for more information.
