I. Procedures for Reappointment, Promotion, and Tenure (Tenure-Track Faculty)

1. Initiative for soliciting recommendations for reappointment or tenure shall rest with the Dean of the College, subject to all rules and regulations governing reappointment and tenure at RC.

2. In the case of reappointment and/or tenure evaluations, a Departmental Evaluation Committee shall be formed. The Committee shall consist of the department chair, if tenured, and other tenured members of the department.

In the case of a department having fewer than two tenured faculty members, the committee shall consist of the tenured member of the department, who shall chair the committee, and two tenured faculty from related departments, selected by the Dean of the College in consultation with the Academic Personnel Committee and the tenured department member.

In the case of a department having no tenured members, the committee shall consist of two members and a chair selected from tenured faculty in related departments by the Dean of the College in consultation with the Academic Personnel Committee. [Amended: Faculty, 2/3/92; Trustees, 4/25/92]

3.  Schedules: 

a.  For Tenure Procedure:

15 March        Dean sends letter to potential candidates.

1 April            Personnel Committee meets to determine Departmental Evaluation Committees.

April                Dean and Chair of Personnel Committee meet with candidates to go over the tenure process.

20 August        Tenure materials of candidates due in Dean's Office.

1 September     Dean, Departmental Evaluation Committee, and Academic Personnel Committee meet to discuss need for outside evaluators.  Dean meets with Academic Personnel Committee to go over the tenure process.

1 October         Reports from Departmental Evaluation Committees due in Dean's Office

15 November    Report from Personnel Committee due in Dean's Office

15 December   Administrative decisions passed on to candidates.

b.  For Fall Reappointment Reviews 

1 May         Dean sends letter to faculty under review

1 September           Reappointment materials due in Dean’s Office

1 October      Report from Departmental Evaluation Committee due

1 November       Administrative decisions passed on to candidate

c.  Schedule for Spring Reappointment Reviews 

1 December         Dean sends letter to faculty under review

30 January          Reappointment materials due in Dean’s Office

28 February              Report from Departmental Evaluation Committee due

30 March             Administrative decisions passed on

d.  Schedule for Promotion to Professor Procedure

September          Dean reviews records on associate professors

15 October         Dean notifies potential candidates

1 February         Promotion materials of candidates due in Dean’s office

May                    Trustees vote on promotion recommendations. Candidates notified.
