Members of Randolph College’s Society of Physics Students joined Professor Peter Sheldon to conduct a workshop explaining the scientific principles behind Pinewood Derby Car racing to Cub Scouts from Timberlake United Methodist Church in November.

“This country has a crisis in education and a lack of children interested in science, which leads to a lack of scientists,” Sheldon said. “It is important to show the children that science is relevant, that it is interesting, and that it is something they can pursue. It is great for the children to learn that there is a scientific basis behind what they already love to do. It was also a wonderful opportunity for Randolph College students to give back to the community.”
