Phase II: Davenport Fellows

In the second year, students will have the opportunity to mentor other emerging leaders or spend time at a local service agency in an extended volunteer experience.  In the spring, students will learn advanced group processing skills as part of the Student Facilitator Training Program.  Students will learn about experiential education theory, how to facilitate ice breaker and teambuilding activities, and how to create a present a workshop.


Rising Fellows are focused on the following objectives…

·         develop an understanding of experiential education and its methodology in developing and managing a group
·         become familiar with a process for creating workshops
·         practice creating and presenting a workshop
·         develop an understanding of group process skills related to ice breakers and teambuilding activities and appropriate use of these activities in developing a group
·         practice facilitating an icebreaker and teambuilding activity
·         assess growth in learning about leadership and the student’s capacity to lead and manage group process through written reflection.

Overview of Activities

Fall Semester

·         Participate in mentor facilitation training Saturday, September 6 and Sunday, September 14
·         Co-facilitate an ELP group, presenting elements of the 7 Cs
·         Attend mentor meetings to prepare for upcoming ELP group sessions

Spring Semester

·         Participate in the weekly Student Facilitator Training Sessions. Participation includes being actively involved in activities and discussions, completing assignments and readings, and helping to provide feedback to group members.
·         Submit a written reflection about your experiences in the Rising Fellows program and your development as a leader. 

Students who finish all the requirements of phase II and maintain a QPR of 2.3 will be eligible to continue on to phase III.
