Exploring Majors and Careers

"What major do I choose?"

There is no easy answer to this question.

Making good career decisions results from a process that takes time, effort, and research.

The professional staff of Career Development is available to work with each student to help you evaluate your abilities, experiences, interests, and values. Knowing what you do well, what you like to do, and what things are important to you are essential in making a good career decision.

Career Development Cycle

Because career decision-making is a process most effectively accomplished through a series of developmental steps, a career development cycle that corresponds to The Randolph Plan is used. The career cycle offers a student a program of self-assessment, exploration, experimentation, and decision-making to help you explore various career options and experience career areas in which you have an interest.

Self-Directed Search

The Self Directed Search Career Assessment will aid you in exploring your skills, interests, and values which will help develop an accurate picture of your strengths, needs and preferences. A career assessment will not tell you "what to be" but will help you think how potential occupations will or will not fit your personality.

Taking a career assessment will not alone be all that you need to make career decisions. An appointment with the professional staff in the Career Development office for career counseling and further research into career possibilities is an important step in making decisions.

Come by the office in the Experiential Learning Center, West Hall (first floor) or call extension 8116 to make an appointment.
