About our Department

Integral to the configuration and exercise of political power, gender, labor, war, sexual relationships, etc., religion shapes the institutional order and the individuals who dwell therein.

Course offerings in religious studies reflect a multidisciplinary and cross-cultural approach to religious forms of life past and present, with an eye for the cultivation of informed, thoughtful engagement in an increasingly global public square.

Focus areas include the historical and theological foundations of Western thought, philosophical theology, American religious history, religious literatures and textual traditions, and religion and culture. A broad introduction to religions of the East is also provided.
