CRST 205 - TEACHING WITH TODAY'S TECHNOLOGY LAB
This course is designed around the national technology standards and the Virginia Technology Standards for teachers. Students will become familiar with a variety of technologies that are used in K-12 classrooms. Students will develop lesson plans for use in schools that integrate technology as a learning tool including PRS, SMART Board, Computer-based lab probes, and video editing.
Hours credit: 1.5.
CRST 208 - CONCEPTS OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MATHEMATIC
Introduces elementary problem solving with emphasis on the nature of numbers and the structure of the real number system. Designed for students seeking a teaching certificate in elementary education. Topics studied include the structure and properties of number systems and of Euclidean Geometry applicable in elementary and middle school classrooms. Required for Curricular Studies majors.
Hours credit: 3.
CRST 307 - CIVICS & ECONOMICS EDUCATION
Students will examine the roles citizens play in the political, governmental, and economic systems in the United States. Students will investigate the process by which decisions are made in the American market economy and explain the government's role in it. The standards identify personal character traits, such as patriotism, respect for the law, willingness to perform public service, and a sense of civic duty that facilitate thoughtful and effective active participation in the civic life of an increasingly diverse democratic society. The content will follow the Virginia Standards of Learning and is required for curricular studies majors and students seeking the history/social studies teaching license.
Hours credit: 3. Prerequisite: sophomore standing or permission of the instructor. Alternate years.
CRST 494 - SENIOR SEMINAR
Students will evaluate and conduct qualitative and quantitative research. Each student will work with a faculty supervisor to prepare a research proposal/thesis. Students will present their work during an oral presentation for students and faculty.
Hours credit: 3. Prerequisite: Acceptance into the Teacher Education Program.
