A new shuttle service funded by Student Government will provide transportation for Randolph students to the Lynchburg Community Market and other popular downtown destinations on Saturdays.

The morning shuttle to the Lynchburg Community Market picks up students in front of Main Hall every hour from 7-9 a.m. It will drop off and pick up students at the market at a quarter past the hour, and last pick up is at 10:15 a.m. A late-night downtown shuttle also picks up students in front of Main Hall every hour from 9-11 p.m. Return shuttles run from and pick up students from the Community Market at 10:15 p.m., 11:15 p.m., and midnight.

Both shuttles are free for Randolph students, and will continue through the end of the fall 2015 semester. Depending on student interest and usage, the service could be continued during the spring 2016 semester.

“When we started working on this project, some students mentioned that they were only engaged with Rivermont Pizza, The Cavalier, The Corner, and Magnolia Foods, and they wanted to actually go outside the Red Brick Wall,” said Sandeep Poudyal ’16, Student Government president. “Student Government thought that it was necessary for us to take the initiative to make downtown more accessible to students.”

Poudyal said Student Government is interested in expanding the service to other Lynchburg locations, and hopes to make the service available for the Poplar Forest Wine Festival Nov. 21.
