Holly Layne Chosen as Master Star Rater Consultant

LYNCHBURG–The Office of Early Childhood Development, in partnership with the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation, has selected Holly Layne, director of the Randolph College Nursery School, to serve as a Master Star Rater Consultant in Virginia’s Star Quality Initiative.

Master Star Raters play a key role in the initiative and are dedicated to improving the quality of early childhood care and education in Virginia.

The Virginia Star Quality Initiative is a system designed to assess, improve, and communicate the level of quality in early child care and education settings that families consider for their children.

In 2009, the Randolph College Nursery School was one of just 31 childcare providers in teh state to receive a four-star rating from the Initiative. The four-star rating was the highest rating to date at that time.

The Initiative is a partnership between the Office of Early Childhood Development and the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation and is part of an overall state plan to improve, integrate, and evaluate all early childhood services, infrastructure, and public engagement efforts in the Commonwealth. The program provides childcare providers and preschools with resources and mentors as well as a consistent measure of program quality.
